About Me

Lesson at a student's home

A short video about my lessons.

I have played in functions bands as well as solo in both Sydney and London for the last 10 years. I now focus solely on teaching and  teach more than 1,500 lessons a year.

In my studio in Bromley I produce tracks, some of which have been used for syncing on prime time BBC programmes.

I'm confident my experience can help you learn and get better on guitar.

I am an RGT-member and I have a CRB check. I have passed the Grade 8 (Acoustic) RGT exam with Distinction (90.5%). I have also passed the Grade 8 Rockschool Bass Exam with a merit and Grade 5 in Music Theory (ABRSM)

I've been playing guitar most of my life.

I first played a guitar when I was 13. It was a horrible classical guitar that my Mum, who was a teacher, bought home from school. Pretty quickly I could pick out a few melodies I knew, and I was hooked.

More than twenty years later, I am still fascinated by the instrument, and I really enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience to new guitarists.

I am originally from Australia and moved to England in 2008. I eventually met my now wife and have settled with her and my son in Bromley.

Let me know if I can help

My focus is absolute beginners and beginners but I can teach any level of student. I teach students from age 7 and upward.

I will base the lessons around what you need in the style of music you want to play. I provide an email summary after each lesson on what was covered and things to work on.

I have developed a number of courses that are suited to every level (and age of student). For info, click here:

About Lessons

Tom has been teaching me for a few months now and I'm delighted with the results.. the lessons have been hugely enjoyable and informative, and I've picked up a new hobby in my thirties!

Tom is great at listening, if there is something you would like to apply to a lesson then he will happily do this, he can take your favourite song and help you to be able to play it within a couple of lessons which is great value for money...I have had 15 lessons and will be having plenty more!!!!

I have tried other teachers in the past and found the experience of one-to-one learning too nerve-racking to benefit from lessons, but I find Tom's calm presence and ability to discern where the gaps are in my ability totally reassuring...

Tom has a vast musical knowledge and the ability to pass it on in a way that makes it fun to learn, and a fun experience. Our 11 year old also started taking lessons and has been improving her musical skills rapidly. She loves that the lesson is tailored for her with popular songs she loves, or new music that she finds cool.

As we wind down to Christmas, thanks to everyone for a good year. This last month saw some solid performances in the Beckenham Festival and gradings, so congratulations for those achievements.
